Hello!

My name is Alastair Callander, and I am delighted that you are here. â€‹I would be honoured to work alongside you on your journey to improve your quality of life with your home and belongings. Thank you for your interest in this service, and I hope to meet you soon!

About Me

I have been working in healthcare and social work for the past 9 years, and developed a special interest in supporting people living with hoarding-disorder during the past two years. I am passionate about providing equitable care, and believe that working with people in their own home environment offers unique opportunities for incredible collaboration and creativity whilst addressing each individual's needs.

As someone who has lived with mental health difficulties, I am able to empathise with people's stories and always strive to make them feel respected and valued. More than anything, I aim to treat others the way I would want to be treated in their situation. The vulnerability it takes to allow a stranger into one's home takes incredible courage, and I hope that I help every one of my clients see how brave they are for embarking on this journey of self-care.

In my personal life, I enjoy reading, writing songs, cooking, hill-running, and wood-working. I am very involved in my men's mental health group called Mind the Men, and volunteer with the charity Clutter Chat. My partner and I enjoy travelling and looking after our two wee cats, Moira and Shimmer.

Education and Career Journey

Hoarding Disorder Practitioner

Clutter Chat Board Member

My interest in hoarding-disorder began when I had the opportunity to work with the social enterprise LifePod based in Edinburgh. There I had the opportunity to learn from other hoarding-disorder practitioners and develop skills working with people in the community. I am now passionate about making this service accessible to people living throughout Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and am grateful to be involved in the charitable work of Clutter Chat that provides weekly peer-support sessions.

Community Links Worker

Working as a community links worker has given me invaluable experiences in the community, enabling me to learn about all of the support that is available locally. I am comfortable working collaboratively with different stake-holders, social services, and third-sector groups in order to meet the unique needs of the people we serve. If you ever have any social needs, I will be able to signpost you in the right direction!

ASIST Qualification
Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

This community mental health course has given me the skills to provide psychologically informed care. I am certified to respond to suicidal ideation and provide mental health first aid, and can offer support during a  crisis.

MSc Physiotherapy

BSc Sports Science

Before changing careers into the social work sector, I worked as a physiotherapist for 4 years. I am very grateful for those years as they gave me insights into Scotland's health and social inequalities, as well as experiences in delivering person-centred care. These transferrable skills have been invaluable in supporting people within their homes, as I am very comfortable creating personalised treatment plans whilst remaining adaptable to each person's circumstances, goals and needs.
